Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve 20 Years Old Whiskey

Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve 20 Years Old Bourbon Whiskey from the house of Buffalo Trace: A very rare bottling from 2006 which is hardly available in Germany and highly sought after by collectors. This whiskey is one of the best bourbons in the world. It was laid down for 20 years in American white oak casks and delights many enthusiasts with its mild and light taste – in contrast to many other bourbons. This can be attributed to the production method: The mash is made of corn and wheat – not barley and rye, which are more usual with bourbon.

Pappy Van Winkle is a Kentucky whiskey industry legend and he also graces the label on the bottles. He ran the Stitzel-Weller Distillery and produced well-known brands such as Old Fitzgerald Cabin Still and Rebel Yell. After Stitzel-Weller was sold, his son Julian Van Winkle Jr. began buying up whiskey stocks still stored there, which he then offered under the “Van Winkle” family name. The Van Winkle Family Reserve bottlings only began to gain in popularity in the 1990s, when they received 99 out of 100 points from the Beverage Testing Institute. Various prominent chefs in the USA also described Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve as one of the best whiskeys in the world.
