Remy Martin Louis XIII Rare Cask 43.8 Cognac in a black Baccarat crystal decanter – a particularly high-quality and rare bottling.

In 2004, during her annual inspection, Cellar Master Pierrette Trichet discovered a cask that was unusually blessed with a higher alcohol content and, furthermore, a special taste and aroma. She observed the maturation in this cask for five more years and then decided that this Louis XIII should become a special bottling as a “Rare Cask”.

Just 786 bottles were filled from this special cask.

Remy Martin is a brand of spirits producer Remy Cointreau and is based in the city of Cognac in France. The cognacs are available in many different levels of quality. The Louis XIII bottlings are the highest quality ones and have been in production since 1894. Their handmade decanters are made of Baccarat crystal and are rounded with pointed fins. These are replicas of a bottle found on the edge of a battlefield of a 16th century battle near Cognac in 1850. The cognacs are presented in various imposing, mostly red packaging.

The Louis XIII Rare Cask with its black crystal glass carafe is an absolute speciality. A team of some 20 master craftsmen was involved in producing the unique, black opaque carafes. The neck of the carafe is clad in palladium – a very rare metal (similar in value to gold or platinum). Each of the 786 decanters is an absolute work of art, requiring almost two weeks of work to produce. The particularly eye-catching and large crystal stopper takes the form of the Fleur-de-Lys – the symbol of the French monarchy.

The packaging is also very special. It is a type of display case that illuminates the bottle with LEDs.

The taste of the Remy Martin Louis XIII Rare Cask is described as very intense with aromas of honey, nuts, mushrooms and forest floor. The aromas resonate for a long time.
