Cardhu 1973 27 Years – Rare Malts Selection

Cardhu 1973 27 Years from the Rare Malts Selection – Natural Cask Strength. Distilled in 1973 and bottled at cask strength 27 years later as part of the “Rare Malts Selection”.

The “Rare Malts Selection” is a series of single malt whiskies from casks of closed distilleries or from distilleries that do not market bottlings independently. These include Rosebank, Linkwood and Port Ellen, for example. They are normally cask strength bottlings that were distilled in the 1960s, 1970s or early 1980s and laid down to mature for at least 18 years. The series appeared from around 1995 to 2005 and was marketed by independent bottler Diageo. The series has now been discontinued, being replaced by the annual “Special Releases”. The individual Rare Malt bottlings are highly sought after by collectors.

Cardhu (formerly “Cardow”) was founded around 1824 by the Cumming family. Following various changes of ownership, the distillery has been part of Diageo since 1987. Most of the production is used for blends. Cardhu single malt whisky can be described as fruity/sweet.
